What SEER2 Measures

SEER2 is a seasonal cooling-efficiency rating. ENERGY STAR defines it as the cooling removed from the conditioned space during a cooling season divided by the electricity used during that season. It is useful for comparing properly matched equipment, but it does not predict a particular home's utility use or prove that every room will feel comfortable.

A rating belongs in the equipment review, not at the front of the decision. The home's cooling load, duct system, return-air path, and equipment fit determine whether a selected system can deliver the cooling it was designed to provide.

Why Staging Can Matter for Houston Comfort

When conditions allow a staged cooling system to operate at a lower capacity, it can run for a longer, steadier call. That gives the indoor coil more opportunity to remove moisture while it cools. The comfort goal is not simply reaching a thermostat setting, but reaching it without leaving the home clammy or creating wide temperature swings.
